Learning to ski

If it’s your first time out on the snow then La Tania is the perfect place to learn. With a free lift and piste in the centre of the village, Chalet Chabirusse and The Chalet Hotel are perfectly situated to get you started.
We have once again teamed up with New Generation to offer our guests a quality service with best value.

Group lessons are a great introduction to skiing and available throughout the season in La Tania,
If you are wanting something a bit more intensive or looking to expand on existing skills then private lessons will help you towards your goal.
Offering both ski school and private lessons the teachers with New Generation are English speaking and particularly great with kids.

  • Adult group ski lessons are a great way to learn to ski and develop technique. With a little tuition each morning in a fun and sociable setting you’ll have plenty of time to practise or ski with friends.
Their groups are small which means you’ll get plenty of individual attention and pointers to have you skiing like a pro in no time. All of their lessons are taught in English by a fluent English speaker. Plus, their instructors know the resort inside out. They will pick the most suitable terrain to build your confidence, and help you hone your technique throughout the week.
Adult group ski lessons run for just 2hrs a day (3hrs in our Swiss and Austrian resorts), so you’ve plenty of time to ski with friends or practice. And the morning sessions will give you a great base to ensure you build confidence and get the most out of your week.

  • Taking children skiing can be great fun. Yes, the first day can be a challenge, getting through that morning faff. But when you see your child make their first turns on skis with a big grin on their face, it’s worth every lost glove! The key is ensuring your children’s ski lessons are great fun, so they’re keen to return each morning, to join their group. Then you can take to the slopes, safe in the knowledge they’re in safe hands.
Since 1998 New Generation have taught thousands of children how to ski. They’ve watched kids grow into competent skiers who love skiing, and we take that responsibility very seriously. They know how important that first experience on snow is, and how a well-timed hot chocolate can bring a smile every time.
All of their kids’ ski groups are small and friendly. Lessons are taught in English, by an experienced instructor with all of the children’s lessons based around fun and learning in a play environment. Your child will improve and build confidence without feeling like they’re stuck in ski school. Plus, they always try to finish on a high with a challenge or activity on the last day, such as a mountain-based treasure hunt or a trip to the fun park. Then, at the end of the week each child will receive a certificate and badge in an presentation ceremony. They use the Snowlife awards system for the children’s ski groups, as recommended by BASI (British Association of Snowsports Instructors). The children’s group lessons are ran during peak weeks, they sometimes run outside of peak weeks but times and prices may vary. Please get in touch for details.

  • New for Winter 2017/18

Are your teens already out-skiing you? While they have probably outgrown kids groups, they might not want to be stuck with adults all week. Which is why New Generation have introduced a specialised Pro Rider teen group. Pro Rider groups will give your teen the opportunity to learn and develop in different areas of skiing in a fun environment with others their age.
During this week-long course, each day of the week the group will focus on a different aspect of skiing:

    • Find Your Ski Legs– The first day is focused on getting back into the rhythm of skiing and warming up those legs.
    • Ski Racing– One day of the week they’ll get a taste of what what the pros do and learn the basics of ski racing.
    • Freestyle– Another day will be spent in the park focused on freestyle skiing. They’ll be hitting the boxes and learning new jumps – and maybe teaching us a thing or two!
    • Avalanche Safety & Off Piste Skiing– A third day will be spent learning avalanche safety basics and then they’ll head off piste to find some fresh snow.
    • Group Choice– On the final day, the group can choose to focus on a highlight of the week, or make the most of the current conditions.

Pro Rider teen groups are for level 7 skiers, aged 13-17yrs.

  • Heading to the slopes for a quick weekend? New Generation have got you covered. Offering group ski or snowboard lessons each weekend, it’s the perfect choice for your short break! Learn to ski or board and develop technique in a social setting, which is made to fit right into your weekend schedule.

The weekend group ski & snowboard lessons run from Thursday – Saturday or Friday – Sunday. With small groups you’ll get plenty of individual attention. Plus all of the lessons are taught in English by a fluent English speaker. And most importantly, the experienced instructors know their resorts inside out, so they will pick the most suitable terrain to build your confidence, and help you get the most of your short stay.

Weekend group lessons run for just 2hrs a day, so you’ll have plenty of time to ski with friends and family over the rest of the weekend.

Weekend Group Lessons are only available during non peak weeks.

  • Private ski & snowboard lessons are one of the most flexible options New Generation offer. Enjoy one-to-one coaching, or you could share a lesson with friends of the same level. The instructors will help you progress and build confidence, and why not get a few pointers to ensure you get the most out of your week?

Private ski & snowboard lessons can be on or off piste with whatever focus you choose. Perhaps you’re looking for a refresher? Need to build confidence after an accident or injury? Learn to master that carving turn you’ve been hankering over, or let them guide you on an off piste adventure. The opportunities are endless.

  • If you’re a high intermediate skier or boarder, or above, and looking for something a bit different than group lessons then our ski or snowboard clinics could be just the thing.

Clinics are the perfect way for advanced skiers and boarders to develop technique and get off a plateau without the commitment of lessons each day. Each clinic is a 6hr course split over three 2hr sessions on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. And with a day off between the sessions you’ll have plenty of time to practice your technique, getting feedback as you progress throughout the week.

Choose from Piste Performance or All-Mountain.

Ski or Snowboard Clinics are only available in Non-Peak Weeks.

  • If you’re an advanced skier or snowboarder in search of the next adventure, or keen to try something a little different then the new Backcountry Skills sessions could be just the ticket. These sessions are for people who can ski or ride blues through to blacks, but are looking to improve their skills off piste. Perhaps you’re keen to learn how to glide through the fresh stuff? Or not sure how to stay on your feet and maintain a rhythm when it gets heavy, or chopped? Or you’ve watched people powering up the slopes and fancied learning how. Well what are you waiting for?

Backcountry Skills courses run in two session blocks. The first 2hr lesson is designed to develop your skills, confidence and technique. Then the second 4hr session gives you the opportunity to put these skills to the test off piste, with a coach on hand to give you some tips and guidance along the way.

Choose from two Backcountry Skills sessions: Intro to Off Piste or an Intro to Ski Touring/Split Boarding

And develop the skills to allow you to enjoy the ultimate backcountry adventures.

  • Explorer sessions are perfect for people who prefer to learn on the move, want to find the best snow and jump the queues. These one-off guided adventures with tips are for higher intermediate (happy on reds) to advanced (happy everywhere) skiers and boarders who want an experience and some local knowledge while they are on holiday.

From ski guiding with tips to a full off-piste adventure New Generation try to match your Explorer session with our instructors’ specific skills and passions. As well as making the most of the available terrain, and showing you our favourite spots.

These are the sessions that make the instructors think they have the best jobs in the world. It’s no normal ski school. The emphasis will be on learning on the move. And they help you improve while showing you why we really really love skiing in our resorts. Starting at 9am to beat the queues so don’t be late!

Choose from two different levels available: Piste or Off-Piste

  • If you’re an intermediate or advanced skier or boarder keen to get off the beaten track, why not join New Generation for an off piste adventure, and really explore your resort? Or if you haven’t ventured off piste yet and want to give it a go, they’ve got something for you. Off piste skiing is the ultimate adventure, getting fresh tracks and getting away from the crowds. Offering both off piste lessons and off piste guiding.  So whether you’ve never ventured outside of the piste markers, or you’re looking for hidden powder stashes, they will help you find fresh tracks and teach you to ski them with style.

Please note, avalanche safety equipment will be required for most off piste lessons, unless you’re learning technique around the piste markers. If you do not have your own New Generation may have some they can loan you, or can advise you where you can hire it. And while they really love taking you on these adventures, each session is condition dependent and the safety of you and our instructors is paramount.

  • Since 1998, New Gen have been creating amazing skiing holidays for clients across the Alps. In that time they’ve also organised a large number of corporate trips and bespoke packages for groups from Coca Cola, Sports Direct, British Military Fitness and Vodafone to name but a few.
They know what makes a good trip great and we know all the small details matter. Whether it’s making lunch reservations using our extensive local knowledge, or taking your group heliskiing. So why not let us organise your corporate booking this year?
New Generation will liaise with you to organise a bespoke package and ensure that everyone in your party is catered for, whatever their level. Highly qualified instructors are on hand to coach your party or just to guide them around and find the best snow, then pick the most suitable instructors, based on your requirements, and will visit your party on arrival to ensure everything runs smoothly and so your group can meet their instructors. You will also have an in resort contact on hand throughout the week should you need any assistance.
